Brodie & Co Welsh Borders Hardriders Series: With two of the five races in the series now decided, the series is hotting up with Fibrax Wrexham RC riders holding the top spots in each category. David Williams leads the men’s category, Rob MacDonald leads the veteran’s category and Suzanne MacDonald the ladies category. If the current leaders can hold onto their top spots following this weekend’s event, their rivals will have their work cut out to displace them in the final two events in the series. The series has seen a great turnout of riders and this weekend’s event near Oswestry is no exception, with large field set to compete on one of the toughest circuits in the country.

We are pleased to announce that Brodie & Co will be title sponsors of the Welsh Borders Hardriders Series for the 2011, which comprises five classic time trial races on some of the country’s toughest hilly and mountain time trial courses, including the classic events promoted by Chester RC, Wrekinsport, Oswestry Paragon, Fibrax Wrexham RC and Rhyl CC. We will add updates as the series progresses.

The UCI’s new Approval Protocol for new bike frames and forks came into effect on 01.01.2011. Manufacturers are now required to part with £7,800 plus V.A.T per design to obtain UCI approval for new designs. Approved designs go on the UCI’s online approved list and have to wear a ‘UCI Approved’ sticker (the placement of said sticker on the approved design being another matter the UCI dictate). To put it mildly the UCI’s bold claim that the Approval Protocol is a ‘service’ to manufacturers, licence holders, teams, commissaires and ‘the sport of cycling in general’ is unlikely to be seen in that light by those subject to it.
